Nine persons were booked in 2019 for their alleged involvement in a blast in Gadchiroli on May 1, 2019, which killed 16, including 15 personnel of the Quick Response Team and a civilian. The accused were booked on charges including murder, criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
On Friday, special judge C S Baviskar framed charges against Sathyanarayana Rani, Parasram Maniram Tulavi, Somsay Dalasay Madavi and Kisan Sitaram Hidami. Earlier, charges were framed against Dilip Hidami, Sukharu Gota, Kailash Ramchandani and Dinkar Gota. Other than Sathyanarayana, who was granted bail by the Bombay High Court, all are in custody.
In its chargesheet filed in December 2019, the NIA had claimed the conspiracy for the attack was planned a year in advance as a ‘revenge’ for the killing of 40 Naxals in 2018. The NIA claimed a meeting was held in Aarewada jungle area in Gadchiroli district.
