The statue of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi was garlanded by leaders and workers of District Congress Committee (Urban and Rural) near Mata Rani Chowk on the occasion of the anniversary of Quit India Movement here on Friday.

DCC (Urban) president Pawan Dewan and DCC (Rural) president Malkit Singh Dakha spoke on the importance of the day,and said that Mahatma Gandhi had launched the Quit India Movement to free the nation from the clutches of the Britishers. They said now time had come to launch a similar movement against the Akalis to leave Punjab. They said the ruling SAD-BJP combine government was following the policy of “divide and rule” in Punjab.
