THE POST-MORTEM report of a 22-year-old woman, found hanging from a tree outside her residence in Nagra area with her hands tied with a rope, was conducted on Monday. The report said she died due to hanging, with no injury marks on the body. She was reportedly alone at home when the incident occurred.
Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said a panel of doctors conducted the post-mortem, which confirmed hanging as the cause of death with no injury on the body. The entire procedure was videographed, Singh said.
The police have detained two persons booked in connection with the woman’s death. Her father registered an FIR against four persons, alleging they killed his daughter over a land dispute.
During the preliminary inquiry, police found that a dispute had happened between the woman’s family and the accused nearly four years ago. The matter was resolved at the local police station and no case was registered at the time.
Police have also checked the phone locations of the accused named in the FIR. Meanwhile, they are checking the woman’s call details and have recorded statements of those who were in contact with her in the past three days.
Police also examined the woman’s cellphone search history. She belonged to a backward class and had studied up to Class 12. Her brother works in another state and her elder sister lives in another state. On March 19, her parents and younger sister traveled to Lucknow for her mother’s treatment.
According to the police, they received information on Sunday morning about a young woman’s body found hanging from a tree outside her house. A police team reached the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem. Her parents, who were in Lucknow, were informed of her death and returned to Ballia on Sunday.
