Hitting out at the TMC over corruption charges and organising protests against the Centre in Kolkata, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar Wednesday said Mamata Banerjee’s dharna was a ploy to divert the public’s attention and soon her party would have to change its name to ‘Tihar Congress’ from ‘Trinamool Congress’.

Addressing the protest, Majumdar said,  “The TMC is fast losing public support. The chief minister decided to organise this dharna to divert people’s attention.”

Referring to TMC heavyweight and its former Birbhum in-charge Anubrata Mondal who was sent to Delhi’s Tihar in a cattle smuggling case, Majumdar said, “TMC leaders are scared to hear the Enforcement Directorate’s name… Recently, Anubrata Mondal was taken to Tihar jail. Soon, more such leaders will be sent there. Once that happens, the name of Trinamool Congress will change into Tihar Congress.”

Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari urged voters to not vote for the TMC in the upcoming next panchayat polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

“The TMC government in West Bengal is one of the most corrupt governments in the country. TMC leaders are busy filling their pockets by selling jobs or taking bribes. The corrupt regime has to be ousted,” said the Nandigram MLA.
