The state BJP on Thursday expelled two leaders from the party for six years over alleged anti-party activities.
The two are Pradeep Ghosh, who had defected from the Congress to join BJP, and Bapi Ghosh, a Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor from Ward 7, said state BJP president Rahul Sinha. “Pradip has been spotted with leaders of other parties, who have converged to float a new political party for more times than one… he never sought any permission from the party for those visits. His proximity with such people was not approved by the party. Effective from this day, he had been expelled from the party,” Sinha told mediapersons.

On Bapi, Sinha said, “He had won the councillor’s seat while contesting as a BJP candidate. But since then, he had hardly taken part in any party activity. He had also not been working for the people. Those who had voted for him, a BJP candidate, had been insulted and we apologise for the same. The party has decided to expel him immediately.”
In the recent past, Pradeep has been seen rubbing shoulders with sidelined Trinamool Congress MP Mukul Roy on a number of occasions. According to sources, he would be given a prestigious post in the new party which Roy would reportedly float soon.
Bapi, on the other hand, have been seen with several Trinamool leaders after his win in the civic polls. He had also skipped the felicitation programme of winning councillors organised by BJP. Since then, speculations have been afoot that he would join Trinamool.
When contacted, Pradip claimed that he was never a BJP member. “I had been to the BJP office and sat with their leaders for sometime. Does that mean I have become a BJP member? How can they expel me if I was never inducted as a BJP member?” he asked.
