Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Friday asked the people to not get distracted by the use of emotive issues such as religion and caste by the BJP and instead ask the BJP leaders of their promises when it comes to development.

Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Dausa, Priyanka said, “You have to understand BJP’s perspective, because every time there are elections, they talk of religion and caste which are connected to your heart and emotions.”

She said that no Hindustani can deny the talk of protecting one’s religion as it is something which is connected to everyone’s emotions, “But you have to carefully understand why these things are being raised during elections. Why do they talk of these things during elections, instead of things concerning your development? Why aren’t they telling you why they cannot give you money under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)? You will have to ask these questions.”

She said that there are two kinds of politics — one which raises emotive issues during polls instead of development and the other which talks of development and focuses on taking away the difficulties faced by the people.

The focus of Friday’s rally was the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), which aims to bring water to 13 districts in Eastern Rajasthan. The Congress party hopes to raise this issue more widely during the ongoing elections.

Appealing to the people of Rajasthan to break the revolving-door tradition of forming government and re-elect her party’s government, she warned if the BJP government comes back to power in Rajasthan it will stop various welfare measures and schemes of the incumbent Congress government.

Praising the Ashok Gehlot government, she listed various welfare schemes such as the OPS, subsidised electricity, inflation relief camps, Rs 25 lakh Chiranjeevi health insurance, Indira Rasoi subsidised meal, subsidised gas cylinder at Rs 500, Indira Gandhi smartphone yojana, Minimum Income Guaranteed Act, Urban Employment scheme, Gig workers law, Annapurna Food Packets, etc.

Accusing the PM of talking negatively, she asked the people to ask why the PM doesn’t talk positively.
With both CM Gehlot and Sachin Pilot accompanying her on the stage, she said that there is Gehlot on one hand with his immense experience, while on the other there is a young and dynamic Sachin Pilot working for the progress of the state.
