A class 4 student of a private school in Jaipur died on Saturday after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of the school building. Officials from the Education Department who went to investigate the incident were allegedly denied entry as the school refused to open its gates.
According to police, the incident took place around 10.30 am. SHO of Mansarovar police station, Lakhan Khatana, told The Indian Express, “Prima facie, it appears that the girl died by suicide.”
Her parents have lodged an FIR against the school authorities, alleging negligence on the part of the administration and teachers. “The matter is under investigation,” the police said.
The Indian Express tried to contact the school principal but she did not respond to calls or messages.
Following the incident, Education Minister Madan Dilawar directed officials to visit the school. However, the school authorities allegedly did not cooperate with the team.
Abhishek Jain Bittu, spokesperson of Sanyukta Abhibhavak Sangh, claimed while speaking to The Indian Express, “According to the information that we received from students and our sources, the girl was under stress due to the alleged harassment by a teacher, which she never told her parents. She was reluctant to attend school even today. Today, when the alleged harassment continued, she reportedly ran out of her classroom on the first floor and went up to the fourth floor before jumping.”
He further alleged that the school staff washed the spot where the girl fell, removing blood stains. “We want the government to thoroughly investigate the matter and take strict action against those responsible,” he said.
