Woman electrocuted outside New Delhi Rly Station: Insulation failure led to the incident, no deficiency in system, says Railways

The Delhi Police and Indian Railways have launched separate probes into the case.

A day after a 34-year-old woman died allegedly by electrocution outside the New Delhi Railway Station, Northern Railways said that the accident occurred due to an “insulation failure and not because of any deficiency in the railway’s working system”.

“The current leakage occurred due to an insulation failure and not because of any deficiency in the railway’s working system. An investigation is being carried out to ensure that such incidents do not occur again,” Deepak Kumar, Chief PRO of Northern Railways, said. The Delhi Police and Indian Railways have launched separate probes into the case.

On Monday, the Paharganj entry of the New Delhi Railway Station saw repairs being carried out across the parking lot, which is where Sunday’s incident took place. When The Indian Express visited the spot on Sunday, hanging wires were spotted. A day later, they were found tucked in.

Workers tested poles for electrical leakage as part of “maintenance work”. While the spot where the incident took place was cordoned off on Monday, it was business as usual in other parts of the station.
