Two held for smuggling fake currency

Ranjan said they received a tip-off about a gang in West Bengal smuggling FICN from Bangladesh.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have busted an international fake currency racket with the arrest of two men on Friday.

DCP (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan said police had recovered “Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) printed in Pakistan with a face value of Rs 7 lakh. These were smuggled from Bangladesh” by Rasmuddin Khan and Nasirul Sheikh, the two arrested.

“Once the consignments reached India, a string of couriers were used to deliver the notes to the receivers. These receivers purchase genuine currency against the fake ones and transfer it into fictitious bank accounts operated by handlers in Malda,” Ranjan said.

“On Friday, we received a tip-off and laid a trap at Sarai Kale Khan ISBT. While we recovered Rs 3 lakh from Rasmuddin, the remaining money was recovered from Sheikh,” Ranjan said.
