The Supreme Court has refused to restrain Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi, whose nomination to the Governing Body of St Stephen’s College has been questioned.

On Friday,a Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and Ashok Kumar Ganguly dismissed a petition filed by former member of the Governing Body Ajaya P Singha, whose tenure was terminated and Quraishi was appointed in his place.

Quraishi was nominated to the college apex body by principal Valson Thampu in place of Singha last July. Singha had challenged his termination order before the Delhi High Court. He moved the SC after the High Court,on February 8,allowed Quraishi to attend the college society’s apex body meetings till a single judge decided the plea of Singha.
