On the morning of December 3 last year, ex-Armyman Rajesh Kumar Tanwar (51), his wife Komal (46) and their 23-year-old daughter Kavita were brutally murdered at their home in Devli village, in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai. It was their son, 20-year-old Arjun, who found them with their throats slit and called the police — and he eventually turned out to be the killer.

Arjun’s parents making his sister the sole heir to the property was the primary trigger behind him allegedly killing the three, officers said.

A 36-page chargesheet in the case was filed on March 7 in the Saket court, police said.

Police claimed Arjun, a Delhi University student and a state-level boxer, was angry with his father because of his constant objections to his “wayward” life. Initially, the property of the Tanwars — their house and a grocery shop in Neb Sarai — was set to be given to Arjun. But his father’s disappointment in Arjun made him change his mind, said police.
Forensic test reports, which analysed bloodstains on the house keys and Arjun’s motorcycle key which he carried in his pocket, helped bolster the case against him, said police.

The FSL team had also confirmed that there was no forced entry into the house, officers added.

Police also said that a day after the murder, the knife used in the offence and a sweatshirt the perpetrator allegedly wore at the time were recovered from a park near the Qutub Institutional area.

Earlier, police had claimed that Rajesh thrashed Arjun in front of their relatives and the family had a big fight on December 1 during his sister’s birthday party.

The incident took place on December 3 last year. Police said Arjun allegedly killed his parents — on their 25th anniversary — as well as his sister.

At 6.53 am, police said Arjun made a PCR call, saying someone had snuck inside their flat and murdered his parents and sister. He claimed he had gone to the gym and found the bodies when he returned, police had said.
