A day after rejecting Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal’s request to hold a procession in Jahangirpuri, Delhi Police Wednesday said the Hanuman Jayanti celebration will be “regulated” in consultation with organisers.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order-1) Dependra Pathak said: “Hanuman Jayanti celebrations at Jahangirpuri are being regulated in consultation with organisers. We’ll ensure it takes place safely.”
In an order on April 4, DCP (Northwest) Jitendra Meena had denied permission for a Shobha Yatra on Thursday. On April 5, in a letter, the VHP requested permission to hold the procession. The DCP said the procession will be “regulated” along designated routes. Meena said security arrangements have been made. Flag marches were carried out by police Wednesday in the area to ensure peace, the DCP added.
