“If a 182-metre-high statue had been built instead of IIT-Kharagpur, I wonder what would have been the situation of our country. We need to decide if we want such statues and temples or schools and hospitals,” he said. The CM was speaking at the opening of the Signature Bridge in Wazirabad. Kejriwal also emphasised on the importance of science and research and suggested that the country should divert all its energy into this field.

He further alleged that there was pressure to hinder the bridge from being completed: “Officers were threatened to obstruct the project, cabinet meetings stalled, files delayed. But we were determined to start this bridge for the people. It would have been delayed by five more years if our government hadn’t taken over.”
