Pakistan resident Seema Ghulam Haider and her Indian husband Sachin Meena were questioned by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) on Monday. A senior official of the UP Police said that they were questioned by the ATS in Noida at an undisclosed location.

“ATS is looking into the espionage angle and how the woman crossed the Nepal border to enter India. They are being questioned to confirm if the woman is a ‘spy’ or not. However they were not taken into custody,” said the senior official.

Earlier, Gautam Buddha Nagar police had written to the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) to investigate the evidence that they had gathered so far.

Seema (27) along with Sachin Meena (22) and his father (59), was arrested on July 4 under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, IPC sections 120B (Criminal conspiracy) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), and sections 3,4,5 of the Passport Act, 1920 for entering India ‘illegally’ and providing shelter to the woman.

All three were sent to 14 days judicial custody. Later they got bail on July 7.

Officials had said that Seema and Sachin had met in person for the first time in March and stayed in a hotel in Kathmandu for 7 days. Seema came to Nepal for the second time with her four children. She later came to Mohalla Ambedkar Nagar in Rabupura, Greater Noida, and was living there illegally since May 13.

After being released from jail, Seema said that she wants to live with Sachin, whom she met — and fell in love with — while playing PUBG three years ago.

“I started playing PUBG in early 2020… I liked how Sachin played the game, so I initiated a conversation and we became friends. Slowly our friendship turned to love and we looked into the possibility of meeting. Sachin did not have a passport, but I had one… We then found out that Indians could travel to Nepal without a visa and decided to meet there. We met in March and got married at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu before heading back to our countries… my children were staying at my uncle’s house in the interim,” said Seema earlier in an Interview with The Indian Express.

While granting bail to Seema, Sachin, and Netrapal, Justice Nazim Akbar, Jewar Civil Judge (Junior Division) had said that the case is punishable with imprisonment up to five years, so in light of orders of the Supreme Court and the guidelines of the Allahabad High Court, the bail application is eligible to be accepted.
