Fresh notices to tax payers whose cheques bounced

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to issue fresh notices to several defaulters who had deposited cheques for conversion charges that subsequently bounced.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to issue fresh notices to several defaulters who had deposited cheques for conversion charges that subsequently bounced.

The civic agency has also decided to put on hold sealing or notices in “special areas” falling in three of its 12 zones till a proper survey is conducted.

Additional Commissioner (MCD) R K Shrivastav said the Corporation received several cheques between 2006 and January 2010 worth crores towards payment of conversion charges that have bounced. “All those whose cheques have bounced are defaulters. We are collecting this data and will issue fresh notices,” he said.

MCD’s sealing drive for non-payment of conversion charges by traders for commercial use of residential property on the 2,538 notified road stretches in the city also occupied centrestage at the meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Wednesday.
