Delhi News Live Updates, 09 November 2025: Delhiites woke up to a hazy morning on Sunday, with the air quality at most recording stations turning ‘severe’, according to data showed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). As of 7 am, the air quality in Delhi was in the ‘very poor’ category, with the reading at Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS) showing AQI at 391. In Delhi, 22 out of the 39 monitoring stations recorded an AQI above the 400-mark, with Bawana (436) lodging the highest AQI, followed by Wazirpur (435), and Rohini (435), at 7 am.

IGI technical glitch: Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu on Saturday visited the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at the Delhi airport to review flight operations following a technical glitch that disrupted air traffic messaging systems over the past two days. The minister directed officials to conduct a detailed root-cause analysis to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. The glitch at the country’s busiest airport, which began on the afternoon of November 6 and was fully resolved only by Saturday afternoon, had led to massive disruptions across India. More than 600 flights were delayed and 46 flights cancelled.

Expanding EV infra: To generate revenue for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the Delhi government is planning to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by establishing charging facilities for heavy commercial vehicles at nine depots across the city, officials said on Saturday. The depots where commercial EV stations will be set up are located in Rohini’s Sector 37, Keshopur, Nangloi, Kalkaji, Sukhdev Vihar, Keshopur, Nand Nagri, Ghazipur and Hasanpur.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: CAQM says Delhi's air quality improving; no Stage 3 curbs for now

The air quality in Delhi showed a slight improvement on Sunday, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management's (CAQM) to decide against invoking stricter curbs under Stage 3 for now.

The CAQM's sub-committee on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) met in the evening to review the air quality situation after Delhi's daily average AQI remained at the higher end of the "very poor" category in the morning.

According to the panel, Delhi's hourly average AQI stood at 391 at 10 am but improved to 370 by 4 pm and further to 365 at 5 pm.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: DDA grants permission for 'Phool Waalon Ki Sair' after LG intervention

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has granted permission to organise "Phool Waalon Ki Sair", following the intervention of Lt Governor V K Saxena, Raj Niwas officials said on Sunday.

Last week, the organisers announced that they had decided to postpone the event as the DDA did not grant permission to organise the festival in Mehrauli's Aam Bagh.

After Saxena's intervention, the DDA has granted permission to the Anjuman-Sair-E-Gul-Faroshan, the organising body, to hold the traditional festival at its original venue, an official said, adding that the approval has been conveyed to the organisers.

The Delhi Police has arrested two persons including the househelp for an alleged theft at a residence in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area, an official said on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Noor Bano (36), the domestic help, and Hasan Ali, a jeweller, he said.

Police said the complainant, Nipun Narula, reported that several gold ornaments, including coins, necklaces, chains, and bangles, were found missing from his home in Ashok Vihar during Diwali.

"His mother had initially noticed two bangles missing earlier in October but believed they were misplaced. When the family checked their valuables on October 25 after the domestic helps had left, they discovered more gold items missing," the officer said.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: National Zoological Park re-opens to welcome over 8,000 visitors on the first day

The National Zoological Park (NZP), New Delhi, reopened to the public on Saturday, receiving enthusiastic response from visitors. A total of 8,065 visitors, including 954 schoolchildren from 12 schools, enjoyed the zoo on its first day of reopening, a release from Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said.

Marking this special day, the National Zoological Park introduced an all-new 'Insta Ticket Booking Service' for the convenience of visitors. This service is an additional facility, in addition to the regular online booking option available through the zoo's website.

With the new system, visitors can scan a QR code displayed at the entry gate and book their entry tickets instantly within seconds. The payment process is quick and user-friendly -- visitors can pay using any UPI applications such as PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay, BHIM or pay through debit cards, credit cards, or net banking.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: More people availed electricity subsidy since BJP took charge in Delhi: Govt data

The number of consumers availing electricity subsidies in Delhi has seen a steady increase over the past eight months under the BJP government, compared to the same period last year during the previous AAP administration, official data shows.

The Delhi government provides free electricity for consumption up to 200 units and a 50% subsidy on monthly usage between 201 and 400 units. This electricity subsidy scheme is one of the flagship initiatives launched by the former AAP government.

According to official data, a total of 49.6 lakh consumers availed the subsidy in October this year. Of these, 26.5 lakh received zero electricity bills, while 23.04 lakh benefited from the 50% subsidy. In comparison, October last year saw 47.7 lakh beneficiaries, with 24.6 lakh receiving free electricity and 23.1 lakh availing the half-bill subsidy.

As the air quality in the national capital continues to worsen, CM Rekha Gupta on Saturday directed Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to conduct a comprehensive survey across all slum areas to identify families still using traditional stoves or coal-fired heaters (angithis). The benefits of the Ujjwala Yojana, said the CM, will be extended to such families to help them transition to cleaner cooking fuel, ensuring both household convenience and effective pollution control.

Officially known as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the flagship social welfare scheme launched in May 2016 aims to provide clean cooking fuel to deprived households. Saying that her government is working on a war-footing to curb pollution, Gupta said that a team of officials is already on the ground, taking strict action against sources of pollution and implementing targeted measures to clean identified hotspots.

Delhi News LIVE Updates: Traffic restrictions around JLN Stadium for Akon concert on Sunday

Delhi Police on Saturday issued a traffic advisory ahead of the "Akon India Tour 2025" concert, warning commuters of congestion and diversions in the surrounding areas. The live concert, performed by American rapper and singer Akon, is scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday evening from 5 pm to 10 pm. Airline operations at the Delhi airport, the country's busiest airport, are normal now, airport operator DIAL said on Saturday, a day after a glitch with the air traffic control system delayed more than 800 flights.

The technical problem with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports the air traffic control's flight planning process, continued for over 15 hours from around 5:45 am on Friday before the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said at around 9 pm that the issue had been addressed.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which has four runways, handles more than 1,500 flight movements daily.

Delhiites are facing increasingly toxic air quality each day, with pollution levels crossing the 400 mark in several parts of the city on Saturday, making the national capital one of the most polluted cities in the country.

The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI), reported at 4 pm every day, stood at 361 on Saturday, placing Delhi in the 'red zone' and making it the second most polluted city in the country, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Several parts of the city recorded pollution levels in the 'severe' category. Monitoring stations reported an AQI of 404 at Alipur, 402 at ITO, 406 at Nehru Nagar, 411 at Vivek Vihar, 420 at Wazirpur, and 418 at Burari, according to the CPCB's Sameer app data from 38 monitoring stations across the capital.

This initiative aligns with the Delhi government's plan to fully convert the public transport fleet to electric vehicles within the next year and a half.

The DTC has begun setting up the charging infrastructure at the following depots: Rohini Sector 37, Keshopur, Nangloi, Kalkaji, Sukhdev Vihar, Nand Nagri, Ghazipur, and Hasanpur, according to a transport department officer.

The estimated cost for the charging infrastructure at these depots is over Rs 31 crores.

Police officers rescued a five-year-old girl and her 38-year-old mother who were trapped inside a Mercedes-Benz car after it caught fire in Southeast Delhi on Thursday.

Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Southeast, said the incident occurred around 5.37 pm. “The police control room received a distress call regarding a car that had caught fire while halted at a red light near the Tara Apartment crossing,” the DCP stated.

Ratan Lal Meena, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Emergency Response Vehicle and Beat, along with Constable Rahul and traffic personnel, rescued the woman and her daughter, who were identified as residents of Pocket 8 in Kalkaji Extension.

“Confronted with a rapidly intensifying fire, the team exhibited remarkable resourcefulness by swiftly arranging a water tanker from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Their decisive and coordinated efforts were instrumental in completely dousing the flames,” DCP Tiwari said.
