A 20-year-old man was allegedly abducted from his house in Delhi by the relatives of a minor girl living in his neighbourhood — who claimed he had raped her — and beaten to death in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat over the weekend.
The victim was identified as Himanshu Sharma. His mother, Rajni Sharma, filed a complaint at Baghpat Kotwali police station Sunday against eight people, including the minor girl’s mother. Two of those named in the FIR have been arrested, police said.
“We have arrested two people and raids are being conducted to nab others,” said Harish Bhadauria, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Baghpat.
The accused alleged that Himanshu raped the girl on June 27 and had been blackmailing her, said police.
“We have lodged an FIR and arrested two persons. We are probing the charges levelled in the FIR. The body was handed over to the mother of the
deceased after post-mortem examination,” said Sanjeev Kumar, SHO, Baghpat Kotwali police station.
Anil Kumar Sharma, Himanshu’s uncle, claimed his nephew was kidnapped on Saturday by a man who lives in his neighbourhood and his relatives. “The man’s mother told us Himanshu had been killed and his body was lying in a
forest in Baghpat village. We rushed there… and found Himanshu in a semi-conscious state. We immediately took him to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” the uncle said.
Himanshu’s mother, along with others, went to Baghpat Kotwali Sunday morning alleging that local police were shielding the culprits and threatened to stage a protest if those responsible for her son’s murder were not arrested soon.
