Delhi CM assures bureaucrats of support, warns of action if found negligent

As per the CMO, all departments were also instructed to make the public grievance redressal system more responsive. Gupta said that officers who perform their duties diligently “will receive the full support” of the government, but those who “exhibit negligence will face action”.

Directing them to set clear deadlines and deliver projects on time, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday assured the Capital’s bureaucrats of “full support”, cautioning them of action in case of negligence.

Gupta issued the directives at a meeting with all heads of departments, asking them to prepare their agenda for the next 100 days, six months and nine months, adding that these plans must be structured into “detailed working charts, with consistent progress reports submitted to the chief secretary for review”.

She maintained that no compromise on work quality and commitment would be tolerated when it came to developing Delhi as a model city. “The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of public welfare schemes, budgetary allocations, infrastructure development, and key sectors such as education, health, transport, and water supply,” the CMO said in a statement.

“Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed all departments to define their priorities and ensure that they are fulfilled within the stipulated timelines,” it added.

As per the CMO, all departments were also instructed to make the public grievance redressal system more responsive. Gupta said that officers who perform their duties diligently “will receive the full support” of the government, but those who “exhibit negligence will face action”.

The main objective of the meeting, according to the CMO, was to reinforce transparency, accountability, and a result-oriented administrative system. “Merely announcing schemes is not sufficient – effective implementation and delivery of benefits to the public are equally essential,” Gupta was quoted as having said at the meeting. This, she said, will ensure real-time monitoring and prompt decision-making.

Departments were directed to take swift action on critical civic issues, including water supply shortages, drainage and waterlogging, pollution control, the quality of healthcare services, and the availability of essential medicines. She specifically directed officials to ensure there is no shortage of diagnostic equipment or medicines in hospitals.

Reiterating the BJP government’s “zero-tolerance policy on corruption”, Gupta said, “The quality of work and commitment to duty is non-negotiable. Our government is dedicated to providing citizens with better services, transparent governance, and timely developmental work… It is our responsibility to fulfill every promise we’ve made. If all departments work together, Delhi can be transformed into a model city.”
