Delhi Police have said they will question the wife of the owner of a farmhouse where actor Satish Kaushik, who died on Thursday, had stayed. This comes in the wake of her allegation that her husband conspired to kill Kaushik over a Rs 15-crore loan. The farmhouse owner, Vikas Malu, has denied the allegations.
Kaushik had died after a cardiac arrest while being taken to the Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon. While police have denied foul play in the actor’s death, they said an inspector-level officer will inquire into the new allegations. Police said they are also in touch with the actor’s family members, who have not raised any allegations of foul play.
The farmhouse owner’s wife wrote an email to the police commissioner on Saturday, alleging: “On 23.08.2022, I was in the drawing room where Kaushik and my husband got into an argument. Kaushik was saying he was in dire need of money and that it has been three years since he gave Rs 15 crore to my husband for investment. Kaushik also said neither any investment was made nor was his money returned, and he felt cheated.”
The woman also alleged her husband had “in connivance with other associates” used drugs at their home to kill Kaushik.
Police said the woman was the farmhouse owner’s second wife – they got married in 2019 and were separated.
“Prima facie… there is no foul play and the woman has not provided evidence to back her allegations. She was not with Kaushik or her husband at the time of the incident. However, we are still conducting an inquiry and will call her for questioning. An inspector-level officer from Southwest district has been asked to probe the matter,” said an officer.
Malu, in a statement, said: “He (Kaushik) was like my family… we have known each other for over 3 decades. We never had any business transaction nor did we loan each other money. The allegations against me are absolutely false. She (my wife) can produce evidence if she has any…”
Earlier, Malu had shared videos of Kaushik dancing at a Holi celebration on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “Satish ji has been my family for the past 30 years and it did not take minutes for the world to use my name in the wrong light. I can’t fathom the tragedy that happened after our beautiful celebration together… I’d like to break the silence and say that a tragedy is always unforeseen and no one has any power over it. With this, I’d like to request the media to respect everyone’s sentiments…”
Police said guests and staff members of the farmhouse are being called to the police station to record their statements as part of inquest proceedings.
