Services on Delhi Metros Blue line were hit for over an hour on Friday morning following a snag in the overhead electrification.
Trains ran slowly and the ventilation and lighting systems were run on battery after the overhead electrification on the Karol Bagh-RK Ashram section developed snag.
Trains ran up to 20 minutes late, resulting in massive queues on all stations on the Blue line.
A DMRC official said the problem occurred at 11.40 am. The snag was rectified by 12.50 pm. We made announcements that the ventilation and lights were working on battery, he said.
Commuters complained that commuting on the Blue line was suffocating because of poor ventilation and crowded compartments. I had to wait for over an hour at the Karol Bagh Metro station to board a train. In the compartment, there was no space to stand. The air-conditioning was not working. At every station, the train stopped for 10 minutes and ran at extremely slow speeds. The commute to Rajiv Chowk that normally takes 10 minutes took 50 minutes, Deepak Agarwal, who works in Connaught Place, said.
Trains were run on a short loop between Karol Bagh and Dwarka Sector 21,as well as between Barakhamba and Noida. Only a single line was in operation between Karol Bagh and Barakhamba.
Last month,a similar snag on the same line had hit services for over three hours.
