In an overnight move, the Ardee School in Gurgaon’s sector 52 has closed for two years for renovation, forcing around 70 students to get admissions in various schools and rendering around 30 teaching and 25 non-teaching staff jobless.
According to parents of the students, they were informed about the move through the school’s portal which stated that the school is being shut for renovation for two years. “In the best interest of our students’ social and mental well-being, we have decided to temporarily close the Ardee Gurugram Campus for a complete renovation w.e.f from May 15, 2023,” the notice said.
The circulation claimed that the renovation “will take 2 years minimum”.
One of the parents said that many students were leaving the school for a couple of months after which the school announced a fee reduction of 10 per cent. However, it abruptly decided to shut the school for two years.
In the notice accessed by The Indian Express, the school confirmed that students in Gurgaon branch will be offered a “place at Ardee Delhi at the same fee of Ardee Gurugram for the academic session 23-24.”
However, this has not satisfied the parents of students. They said that the distance between both the campuses will require an everyday commute of over two hours. Speaking to The Indian Express, a teacher from the school said the move is abrupt which has shocked the teachers as well and they were intimated of the decision over a Zoom call. “Had it been a planned move and announced six months prior, everyone could have decided something for themselves,” the teacher said.
“This just happened overnight and we had no clue. The school has left us in the lurch and now the future of students, teachers, and staff is at stake,” the teacher said, adding that while there has been no formal proposal if they will be absorbed to Ardee School’s Delhi branch, there have been talks in this regard.
