62-year-old woman dies after auto-rickshaw hits her in South Delhi

Delhi also witnessed three other fatal accidents on Monday in which an auto-rickshaw driver, a gig worker, and a motorcyclist lost their lives in separate incidents.

A 62-year-old woman died after being hit by an auto-rickshaw in South Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area on Monday morning. The police stated that they are attempting to locate the driver who fled the accident scene.

The deceased has been identified as Ali Begum, the police said.

According to the police, the accident was reported at 7.20 am near Kali Building School under the Ambedkar Nagar police station limits.

When the police team reached the spot, they found an abandoned auto-rickshaw and learned that the injured woman had already been taken to a nearby hospital by her son-in-law, said the police.

“A medico-legal case (MLC) was also received from AIIMS Trauma Center, where the patient was found unfit for statement at 6 pm, and information regarding the death of injured Alia Begum was received,” said Sumit Kumar Jha, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, South.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Ambedkar Nagar station and seized the auto-rickshaw involved in the incident.

The police visited the address of the registered owner of the vehicle and found that the auto-rickshaw had changed hands several times without any formal transfer of ownership.

Delhi witnessed three other fatal accidents on Monday in which an auto-rickshaw driver, a gig worker, and a motorcyclist lost their lives. In East Delhi’s Lakshmi Nagar, an auto driver was killed after a Delhi Transport Corporation’s DEVI electric bus lost control and rammed into a car and an auto-rickshaw. In South West Delhi, a speeding car collided with the electric bike driven by a Zepto delivery boy, killing him on the spot. In Central Delhi’s Ferozeshah Road, a 20-year-old man died after a speeding car crashed into his motorcycle.
