Mallya gets anticipatory bail in BIAL case

The police registered a case against Kingfisher after BIAL moved a magistrate court on October 21.

Senior executives of Kingfisher Airlines and chairman Vijay Mallya were granted anticipatory bail by a court in Devanahalli Thursday in a misappropriation case filed by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL).

Sources said Mallya and the executives were, however, directed by the court to cooperate with the police in the probe.

The police registered a case against Kingfisher after BIAL moved a magistrate court on October 21 alleging non-payment of user development and passenger service fees by the airline.

BIAL contended that Kingfisher collected development and service fees from passengers during 2008-12 but did not remit the money to it as per a Director General of Civil Aviation directive.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-east) T R Suresh said the investigation in the case was in progress. “We have asked the complainant to furnish supporting documents. They have sought 10 days. We are waiting for the documents,” he said.

According to the BIAL complaint,Rs 208 crore has been misappropriated by Kingfisher Airlines.
