The headless body of a 35-year-old woman was found in a drain in Noida on Thursday morning, the police said, adding that they were yet to identify the woman and ascertain the cause of her death.
The police received information about the woman’s body at around 10.30 am. “We received information about the body of an unidentified woman found in a drain near Sector 82 Noida Cut. Acting immediately on the information, the local police arrived at the scene and the body was pulled from the drain,” the police said in a statement.
The police said that a panchnama (inquest report) was filed and the body was sent for a postmortem. “Efforts are underway to identify the deceased. Other necessary legal proceedings are underway,” the police added.
Sumit Shukla, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, said that three police teams had been formed to identify the deceased woman.
“The area where the body was found comes under Sector 39 of Noida. As we received the information, we have initiated the investigation to identify her as soon as possible,” he said.
An officer with the Sector 39 police station told The Indian Express that the body was soaked in drainage water and that there were no visible injury marks on it.
“We are waiting for the postmortem report,” he said.
