In a bid to promote clean and renewable energy, the Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) Friday held an awareness meeting with Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), chaired by Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla.

The initiative focused on encouraging residents to install rooftop solar plants and avail benefits under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Babla appealed to citizens to adopt solar power, terming it a sustainable alternative that could reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources.

“Switching to solar is not only an environmentally responsible choice but also a financially beneficial one,” she said.

Arun Kumar Verma, director, CPDL, said the DISCOM considers it its social responsibility to promote renewable energy adoption. “Our aim is to make Chandigarh a model city in the shift to green energy,” he added.

Echoing the sentiment, CPDL’s chief transformation officer Pramod Kumar Mishra stressed self-sustainability amid rising power demand. “Chandigarh holds the potential to lead by example in transitioning to sustainable energy solutions,” he said.
