The Punjab and Haryana High Court Wednesday granted regular bail to former forest minister of Punjab Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in connection with an alleged corruption case.

A five-time former Congress MLA from the Nabha (SC reserved) Assembly constituency, Dharamaot was arrested on February 2. Later Dharamsot filed his bail plea at the Mohali district court, which dismissed his petition on March 5.

Aggrieved from the dismissal of his bail, Dharamsot approached the High Court.

Dharmasot had courted several controversies during his stint as the Punjab Cabinet minister. Dharamsot was earlier arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) in June last year in an alleged corruption case involving Mohali’s former district forest officer Guramanpreet Singh after a sting video showed him seeking bribe for the sale of illegal farmhouses in the vicinity of Chandigarh.

Dharamsot was inducted by former chief minister Amarinder Singh into his Cabinet as forests and social welfare minister. Dharamsot, who belongs to the Bazigar community, was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s Dev Mann in the 2022 Assembly elections.
