With the Congress insisting the Haryana government to declare a date to implement the ‘Lado Lakshmi Yojana’, which promises monthly assistance of Rs 2,100 to the state’s women, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi informed the State Assembly on Tuesday that the matter was under consideration and the government would soon take a decision.
In the run-up to the Haryana Assembly elections in October 2024, the BJP had promised Rs 2,100 monthly assistance to the state’s women if returned to power but failed to implement the scheme even five months after returning to power, the Opposition alleged.
However, on the third day of the Budget Session, Congress Mullana legislator Pooja raised the matter in the House. “Will the minister be pleased to state the time by which Rs 2,100 per month is likely to be disbursed by the government to the women of the state under the Lado Lakshmi Yojana?” she questioned.
As Bedi said the matter was under consideration, the Congress MLA retorted, “I am surprised that such an answer is given in the House. Is this the seriousness of the government? This was their (BJP) first ‘Sankalp’ (promise) during the election. Even after five months (of formation of the new government), it’s still under consideration. I would like to ask directly ‘from which date this scheme would be implemented?’”
The minister then repeated, “The matter is under consideration, and the government is making a scheme. You don’t need to worry about the seriousness of our government. A guarantee given by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is in itself a guarantee. When we say the matter is under consideration, it’s under consideration.”
Attacking the Opposition, Bedi said, “The Congress is not in power in most of the states. They have been wiped out in the country. But what is the fate of the promises they made to people in the few states where they are in power? In neighbouring Himachal, the Congress had made promises to the women and said ‘khata khat, khata khat…’. They made promises in Telangana and Karnataka, but they don’t talk about those promises.”
The minister suggested the Congress legislator go to Himachal Pradesh to check the status of the promises made by her party before the Assembly polls two and a half years ago.
When another Congress legislator, Geeta Bhukkal, tried to speak on the issue, Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said the government stated that the matter was under consideration and the government was working on it. “They can’t tell a date for its implementation today,” the Speaker added.
