Hours after an alleged drug smuggler from Punjab Sunil Yadav was shot dead in California in the US, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang Monday claimed responsibility for the murder to “avenge the killing of Ankit Bhadu” in 2019.
Sunil Yadav, who belonged to the Fazilka district, was shot dead in Stockton on Monday. Yadav fled to the US two years ago using a fake passport, and was on the target of the Bishnoi gang for the past four years, according to the Punjab Police.
In a social media post, Lawrence Bishnoi’s aide Rohit Godara allegedly claimed that Yadav tipped the Punjab Police about Bhadu’s location which led to an encounter and subsequently his death. The post also warned others against leaking information to the police.
Bhadu, a shooter of the Bishnoi gang who was involved in multiple cases of murder, extortion and attempt to murder, was killed by a team of Punjab Police’s Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) in Zirakpur in February 2019. Bhadu had come to meet his woman friend in Zirakpur, and was hiding in a flat with one of his accomplices when he was killed by the police.
Wanted in Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana, Bhadu tried to flee by jumping from the second-floor flat and also tried to take a girl hostage. Bhadu sustained bullet injuries when the police shot at him in a retaliatory firing and died.
