Passengers of the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express were left stranded at New Delhi railway station on Saturday morning after the train failed to include its executive coach.
Scheduled to depart at 7 am, the train remained stationary, causing frustration among passengers.
Railway authorities admitted the error, explaining that the executive coach was not attached to the train due to a logistical oversight. While efforts were underway to address the issue, there was no immediate timeline provided for the train’s departure.
Passengers, including daily commuters and tourists, expressed their anger over the inconvenience. Many criticised the lack of communication from railway staff and the absence of alternative arrangements.
Area sales manager for Orkla Intl, who was bound for Ludhiana, said, “We have meetings to attend, such an oversight is unacceptable.”
Yogesh Aggarwal, a businessman from Delhi, fumed as he had a meeting with a dealer scheduled at 12 pm in Ludhiana today. “How can they fail to attach a complete bogey? This needs an inquiry.”
The delay also disrupted schedules for several travellers relying on the train for its punctuality. Frequent updates over the station’s public announcement system did little to pacify passengers.
An official statement from the Northern Railway zone was awaited at the time of filing this report.
