A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by stray dogs on Tajpur road in Ludhiana Monday — the fourth such incident in the past three months in the district.
Victim Aditya was playing outside with other children when he ran towards a garbage dump where a pack of dogs attacked him, police said.
Division Number 7 police station Sub-Inspector Kulwinder Singh said victim’s mother Lakshmi Devi, in her statement to police, stated that the boy’s father had abandoned them years ago, and she was raising the child by working at a local factory. Lakshmi Devi, a native of Bihar, lives in Mahavir Complex in Ludhiana. She works as a labourer.
The boy suffered deep bite injuries on the neck, face and chest and was rushed to the Civil Hospital but died during the treatment, police said.
Police filed inquest proceedings on the mother’s statement.
Congress district president (urban) Sanjay Talwar lashed out at the AAP-led Municipal Corporation for failing to control the dog menace in the city.
He alleged that the entire AAP, including Mayor Inderjit Kaur, was just busy welcoming their boss Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, while the governance bothered them the least, even if people lost their lives to such incidents.
Calling the incident “unfortunate”, Mayor Kaur said a strategy was being chalked out to control the stray dog menace.
On March 24, 10-year-old Sanjeev was mauled to death by dogs in Mohi village.
In January, two children, Arjun Ram and Harsukhpreet Singh, also became victims of stray dogs in Hasanpur village.
