Bengaluru Metro train services on the purple line were disrupted on Tuesday morning following a technical snag between Baiyappanahalli and Garudacharpalya stations after 8 am, causing inconvenience to office goers and other commuters.
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, trains had to be run at a slow speed due to signalling issues between the two stations.
“Trains in purple line are running at slow speed between Baiyyappanahalli to Garudacharpalya due to a technical snag. There will be disruptions in the train schedules. Teams are working to solve it at the earliest,” BMRCL said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Metro platforms were swarmed by passengers leading to heavy congestion inside the trains. In order to address the peak-hour rush, Metro officials are running short loop services to reduce the inconvenience.
Around 9.30 am, BMRCL officials reported that the technical snag on the purple line was set right at 9.20 am and trains are moving at the scheduled speed. “It will take another hour to normalise the cascading effects and to run as per schedule,” said the spokesperson of BMRCL.
The disruption of train services due to technical snag is the second one in less than a month. The last incident was reported on January 20 on the same purple line.
Passengers vented the agony on social media platforms. Mallikarjuna B, a passenger, posted on X, “ I am stuck in Vijayanagar station at 10.05. Huge passengers surge at the stations, the issue is resolved only after all stuck passengers are boarded. Please look into finding a permanent fix if it happens again.”
Avinash K R said, “Even after 1.5 hours, the issue is not resolved yet. Huge crowd at Majestic.”
Manoj Mydur, another passenger, posted on X, “Please inform/display about such delays and technical snags at the entrances/gates of the metro station. People can shift to other modes of transport and not overburden the system. Knowing about the mess & crowd after entering the gates is just being helpless and endless waiting.”
