In a tightly guarded visit, Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla have been staying in Bengaluru since October 27. The royal couple has been undergoing wellness treatments at Soukya International Holistic Health Centre (SIHHC) in Whitefield, where they were expected to stay until Wednesday night before departing for London.
This marked the King’s first trip to India since his coronation on May 6, 2023, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022.
Sources familiar with the royal couple’s itinerary revealed that King Charles flew directly to Bengaluru from Samoa after attending the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which was held from October 21 to 26. To maintain secrecy, the royal visit was unannounced, and the Karnataka government did not formally receive the couple upon their arrival at the HAL Airport.
The couple was directly escorted to the wellness centre where they have been receiving specialised holistic health treatments. Due to the high-profile nature of the guests, security measures at the health centre have been heightened.
Founded by Dr Issac Mathai, SIHHC is in Samethanahalli, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. For King Charles, an advocate of holistic healing, SIHHC has long been a preferred wellness destination. He has visited the centre nine times previously, celebrating Deepavali there on three occasions and his 71st birthday there in November 2019.
According to sources, King Charles and Queen Camilla follow a structured wellness routine that includes morning yoga, breakfast, rejuvenation therapies, lunch, and a brief rest daily. Later in the day, they participate in a second round of therapeutic sessions, which ends with a meditation practice before dinner. They aim to go to bed by 9 pm. Reportedly, the couple has been enjoying the serene environment, taking long walks around the campus, and exploring the organic farm and cattle shed.
SIHHC offers traditional and integrative medicine, including Ayurveda, homoeopathy, yoga, and naturopathy, alongside complementary therapies such as acupuncture, reflexology, and dietetics.
