Cubbon Park police in Bengaluru arrested two persons following a complaint filed by the Delhi Capitals team regarding stolen gear. The police have managed to recover materials worth Rs 16 lakh, including 12 cricket bats.
In a social media post, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner confirmed that the stolen bats and gear have been found. However, a few items are still missing. The items recovered include 12 bats, 18 balls, four pairs of gloves, three pairs of pads, two thigh guards, two helmets and a backpack.
The accused have been identified as M Cheluvaraju alias Nataraj, 30, from Kengeri and B Sudanshu Kumar Naik, 30, from Sampangi Rama Nagar in the city. Cheluvaraju hails from Mysuru, while Naik is a native of Odisha.
According to DCP (Central) R Srinivas Gowda, the duo stole the gear while transporting it to the airport from the hotel where the players stayed. The accused allegedly planned to sell the items, which belonged to David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Phil Salt, and Yash Dhull.
Anand Agarwal, managing director of Express Freight System India, filed a complaint in this regard with the Cubbon Park police on Friday. He reported that a few kit bags were missing out of the 64 that were transported to the Kempegowda International Airport from a hotel on Vittal Mallya Road. Soon, the police arrested Cheluvaraju, the driver of the vehicle, and Naik, a courier boy, and recovered the stolen goods from them.
The players discovered that their bats and other gear were missing from their kits upon their arrival in Delhi from Bengaluru after the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday last week.
