A local court in Bengaluru on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his friend Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others until August 28 in the Renukaswamy murder case.
Darshan and 11 others were arrested on June 11 in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. According to the police, Renukaswamy was killed after he had allegedly sent abusive messages and photos to Pavithra on Instagram. As many as 17 people were arrested in connection with the crime.
Darshan and 12 associates have been at the Bengaluru central jail for over 50 days, while four others have been transferred to the Tumakuru district prison.
A police officer confirmed that the investigating team had received most of the reports, including the forensic report, which pointed to the suspects as the ones who killed Renukaswamy.
A police officer said four of the suspects showed up to become approvers in the case. They are Karthik, Nikhil Nayak, Keshavamurthy, and Ravishankar.
Karthik, Nayak, Keshavamurthy, and another arrested suspect, Raghavendra, president of Darshan’s fan club in Chitradurga, surrendered before the police on June 10. They claimed responsibility for Renukaswamy’s murder, citing a financial dispute. However, the police later discovered that the four suspects were lying. Further investigations led them to Darshan and others.
The police were yet to file a chargesheet in the case and the investigations were going on.
