In the first week of August, as many as 142 external students of MA part -1 at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) in Surat appeared for their Economics exam. When the results were declared later in the month, only two had cleared the paper.
Following a complaint by the students that the checking was not carried out properly, the university decided to carry out a rechecking. The result that came out earlier this month brought good news but only to two other students who were declared passed, bringing the number of successful candidates to four.
Now the university has given the rest 138 students a month’s time to prepare for a re-examination.
The university authorities had conducted the examination on August 2 and 3. After the results declared in August-end revealed that only two students had cleared the exams, the rest 140 students made representations to Vice Chancellor (V-C) Dr K N Chavda and registrar R R C Gadhvi and alleged that the papers were checked in an improper manner. Following a meeting with the board of management, the university decided for a rechecking.
With this, out of the total of 142 students, four were declared passed.
Sources in the university said that the papers were re-checked by senior professors who detected some technical error in counting the total marks, which was
rectified.
V-C Chavda said, “We have carried out checking of answer sheets twice and a total of four students have been declared passed. We have decided that a re-exam will be conducted and the students will get a month’s time to prepare for it.”
