Ganesh Chaturthi Bank Holiday 2025: On Wednesday, August 27, we commence the 10-day festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi, which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, and consequently, following the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) 2025 holiday calendar, public-sector banks (PSBs) and private banking institutions will be closed today across India.
Bank holidays in India are determined by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which includes RTGS holidays and other regional and national holidays, in addition to the mandatory weekly days off on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month.
There is a total of 15 bank holidays designated for August 2025, according to the RBI calendar for the year 2025.
Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh, the elephant god, known for wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. Also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav, this Hindu festival is celebrated for ten days by Hindus throughout India, with particular prominence in the states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
