The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Wednesday said that C-Edge Technologies Ltd, a technology service provider who caters mostly to cooperative banks and regional rural banks (RRBs), has been possibly impacted by a ransomware attack.

The attack has likely impacted 150-200 cooperative banks and RRBs.

“To prevent larger impact to the payment ecosystem, NPCI has temporarily isolated C-Edge Technologies from accessing the retail payment systems operated by NPCI,” NPCI said on X (formerly Twitter.

Customers of bank serviced by C-Edge will not be able to access payment systems during the period of isolation, NPCI, the umbrella organisation for operating retail payments and settlement systems in the country, said,

“Restoration work is underway on a war-footing along with C-Edge Technologies and necessary security review is in process. Connectivity to the affected banks shall be restored at the earliest,” it said.

C-Edge is a joint venture between Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) and State Bank of India (SBI).
