Brussels attack condemnable, says PM Modi; no Indian among dead

Modi will visit Belgium on March 30 for the India-EU Summit and from Belgium, he will travel to Washington for Nuclear Security Summit from March 31.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brussels for the 13th India-European Union summit, scheduled for March 30, will go ahead as planned, sources told The Indian Express, adding that the PM will also address the diaspora at an event.

Hours after Tuesday’s terror attack, Modi tweeted: “News from Brussels is disturbing. The attacks are condemnable. Condolences to families of the deceased. May those injured recover quickly.”


External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that there were no Indian casualties. Officials said two Indians working as crew members with Jet Airways were injured.

“I am in touch with Manjeev Puri, Indian Ambassador in Brussels. He has informed me that so far there is no report of any Indian casualty,” Swaraj said. “However, an Indian lady crew member of Jet Airways is injured. She has been rushed to the hospital.” She also shared the Indian Embassy’s helpline numbers in Brussels.

In Brussels, he will meet Belgian PM Charles Michel. “Terrorism will obviously top the agenda, along with trade potential, during the bilateral meeting as well as the India-EU summit,” an Indian diplomat in Brussels said.
