Watch: Fire breaks out after Andhra Pradesh man tosses matchstick on leaked petrol; video goes viral

In a horrific incident in Kalyandurg town, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, a man’s carelessness nearly caused a disaster, setting several shops ablaze. The incident occurred when a man, smoking a beedi, carelessly tossed a matchstick into a pool of leaked petrol on the street.

CCTV footage, which has since gone viral, captured the exact moment the fire ignited. The clip shows two men standing on a platform near a row of shops, with two parked two-wheelers nearby. One of the men, while smoking, flicks his matchstick into the pool of petrol. Within seconds, the fuel ignites, forcing the men to flee for their lives.

According to a post by X user Sudhakar Udumula, the chain of events began when a man purchased five liters of petrol in a container, unaware of a leak. “A potential disaster unfolded in Kalyanadurgam town, Anantapur district. A man purchased five liters of petrol from a station near the old bus stand. While riding his two-wheeler, the petrol can burst, spilling fuel onto the road. Unaware of the danger, another individual lit a beedi and carelessly discarded the matchstick into the pool of petrol,” the post read.

Shared on August 21, the video amassed over 79,000 views, prompting social media reactions. A user wrote, “Good. That guy now learned lesson the tough way about the importance of not littering in public.” Another user commented, “Smoking is injurious to environment as well.”

“How come he could not smell the petrol?” another user wrote.
