Air Canada flight’s engine catches fire; latest in string of Boeing incidents

The video footage captures the terrifying moment when the Air Canada Boeing 777 ignites in flames just after takeoff.

BoeingThe viral video sparked a wave of concern among netizens.

Boeing’s top dogs are surely feeling the heat as an Air Canada flight, a Boeing 777-333 (ER) aircraft, carrying almost 400 passengers caught fire. On June 5, just moments after taking off from the Toronto Pearson International Airport, the aircraft’s engine caught on fire, and the terrifying scene was captured on video. The video was shared by @fl360aero on X.

The pilots managed to turn the plane back and make an emergency landing safely.

As reported by CTV News, the Boeing 777 had barely left Toronto for Paris when it encountered trouble. Flight AC872 departed around 8:45 pm, but had to return by 9:50 pm due to what they termed an “engine issue.”

In the video taken at the airport, you can see dramatic sparks on the plane as it ascends into the sky. An employee can be heard exclaiming, “Holy crap! It’s got an engine fire!”

Air Canada later confirmed that there were 389 passengers on board during the incident, reported CTV News.

Social media was flooded with concern over the video. One user said, “I’ve always said GE engines have problems.” Another user added, “OMG! That’s disturbing.” A third user wrote, “Imagine being seated near the wing and you’re just looking down at the runway and boom.”

This incident is the latest addition to a worrying series of recent mishaps involving Boeing aircrafts. Just weeks ago, a Boeing 747-400 operated by Garuda Indonesia had to make an emergency landing due to a similar engine fire.
