Indian cities with slowest traffic in 2024-25: With the expansion of urban centres and the swift pace of development, traffic congestion has emerged as a significant global challenge. Commuters around the world are increasingly affected by extended travel times, leading to a notable decline in economic productivity and heightened frustration.
According to Tom’s Traffic Index 2024, 76% of cities experienced a decrease in average speeds over the past year. This decline suggests that traffic congestion is primarily influenced by the complex interplay of static and dynamic factors.
In recent years, Indian cities have continued to grapple with severe traffic challenges; notably, three cities from India have made it into the top five slowest cities globally in the Tom Tom Traffic Index 2024.
The IT capital of India, Bengaluru, infamous for being the most congested, has seen an increase of 50 seconds from 2023 in the average time to cover 10 km, now standing at 34 minutes and 10 seconds—has surprisingly been overtaken by Kolkata, with the average time to cover 10 km being 34 minutes and 33 seconds.
Pune comes in fourth place internationally, with 33 minutes and 27 seconds, highlighting India’s rising urban traffic difficulties; here are the top 10 Indian cities with the slowest traffic.
