The match was stopped due to a rain interruption with four balls left in the Sri Lankan innings. The match restarted after the lengthy interruption with New Zealand being set a curtailed target of 221 runs to chase off 27 overs.
Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando combined to pile on the runs against New Zealand as Sri Lanka’s rain-interrupted first innings was halted for 324/5 after 49.2 overs. 143 was Mendis’ career-best score, which he plundered off just 127 balls. He and Fernando put on a 206-run stand before rain came to the rescue of New Zealand at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Wednesday.

On a good batting wicket, both Kushal Mendis and Avishka Fernando have piled on runs to put Sri Lanka in a strong position in the first of the three-match ODI series. The duo has piled on 206 runs.
