PBKS IPL 2025 retained and released players: As we have seen plenty of times in the past, Punjab Kings will enter an IPL 2025 auction with a massive big war-chest to splurge on players and rebuild their trophy-less franchise from almost scratch.
On the IPL 2024 retention deadline day, the Punjab Kings franchise have retained only Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. The one surprise from the team has been letting Arshdeep Singh go.
PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting said after the retention deadline, “Prabhsimran is someone who we have invested in and have great hopes for. Shashank’s skillsets are in high demand and after his breakthrough performances, it was difficult to ignore him. We will target bringing back some of our other players at the auction.”
Shashank scored 354 runs in 14 matches for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 while batting at a strike rate of 164.65. Shashank said: “I am grateful to the team for showing faith in me again. I am looking forward to working with Coach Ponting and to keep contributing to our team’s success.”
Talking about continuing with PBKS for seventh season, Prabhsimran said, “I have always wanted to play for Punjab Kings and repay their faith in me. With the legendary Ricky Ponting at the helm, I hope to grow as a player and help the team in the hunt for glory.”
Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of Rs 120 crore for the retention as well as mega auction. If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination. While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
