BJP defends Raje on palace controversy

Accusing the Congress of indulging in petty politics, Rathore and Parnami said all allegations leveled by the opposition were baseless.

The Rajasthan BJP on Monday put up another spirited defence of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in the wake of fresh allegations levelled by Congress over the ownership of Dholpur Palace. “Everyone knows Vasundhara Raje as the ‘Maharani of Dholpur’ and that the palace belongs to her,” said senior minister Rajendra Rathore.

Rathore, along with state BJP president Ashok Parnami, held a press conference hours after Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Dholpur City Palace was public property and did not belong to the erstwhile Dholpur royal family.

“Circulars issued by the ministry of home affairs in 1954 and the general administration department in 1957 mention Hemant Singh (the erstwhile king of Dholpur, Raje’s husband and Dushyant’s father) as the owner of the Dholpur City Palace,” Parnami said.
