Former Union minister Arun Nehru,who died Thursday night after prolonged illness,was cremated here Friday. Nehru,a cousin of Rajiv Gandhi as also his master strategist,was a powerful figure in the mid-1980s when Rajiv was the Prime Minister.
Nehru is survived wife Subhadra and two daughters. The funeral pyre was lit by his grandson Akhil.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi,her son Rahul and daughter Priyanka attended the funeral,shedding differences of the past owing to Nehrus parting of ways with Rajiv in 1987 and his joining hands with V P Singh to form the Jan Morcha.
Senior BJP leaders L K Advani and Arun Jaitley,Union ministers Sachin Pilot,Anand Sharma and Farooq Abdullah and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit too attended the funeral.
