Yash Raj Music,Rs 160
Yet another musical disappointment from YRF where is the banner that gave mostly aces from DDLJ to Dhoom:2? In the name of going contemporary (sic) they have forgone melody and good lyrics. Correction – some of the lyrics here, like Nain parindey (Shilpa Rao) and Dhatad tatad (Shail Hada-Anushka) are decent, with a rather Gulzar-esque imagery. Musically,R.Anandhs score has a superficially catchy track in Dhatad tatad but the rest sound like a rock album. And unless a films theme is rock music or there is a blend of strong Indian melody too, rock can never be equal to Hindi film music.

Well-begun is half-done or more. Daagh Dehlvi is one of the pioneers in ghazal, which lends a rock-solid foundation to the latest album of Pankaj Udhas, who takes up a legendary writers work after a good period. The music (Abbas-Bajwa) is traditional, simple, and non-gimmicky as needed by the high standard of the lyrics, but as in most ghazal albums after the 90s,a shade dull.
