Reacting sharply to New Delhi’s statement that Pakistan had acted hastily in postponing the SAARC Summit of Communication Ministers, Islamabad through a release said that it had approached the SAARC Secretariat as early as January. After all nations barring India had confirmed, it claims to have again approached the Secretariat on Feb 25 and set a two-day deadline for the response.
The Summit, scheduled to be held on March 7 and 8 at Islamabad was postponed by Pakistan a few days ago on the grounds that it had received no confirmation of New Delhi’s participation. For it’s part, the Ministry of External Affairs here said it had not been given enough time and that Pakistan had acted hastily. Not having received reply by March 1, Islamabad decided to postpone the Summit. Islamabad said that it could not have given more time to India.
