MUMBAI, June 20: The city civil and sessions court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail application by one of the prime accused in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) land allotment scam. Subhash Dixit and eight others had allegedly grabbed MHADA land by procuring fake documents during last couple of years.
Sessions Judge M L Tahiliani rejected the anticipatory bail application by Dixit after chief public prosecutor D G Paranjape argued that Dixit, with the help of some MHADA officials, would tamper with important documents connected with the deal.
Investigations carried out by the Pant Nagar police station revealed that Dixit, with the help of one Sunil Shukla, had submitted 1,500 applications to MHADA for allotment of plots at different places in Mumbai and Thane. The two had attached duplicate copies of ration cards, school leaving certificates which turned out to be bogus.
Moreover, he had written his own address on all the applications and had attached copies of the receipt of rent paid by his father. Dixit succeeded in getting allotment for about 300 plots on the basis of the fake documents.
Interestingly, Dixit’s brother Girish is also one of the accused in the scam and was arrested a few months ago. Dixit and Shukla are absconding since. Paranjape maintained that only Dixit and Shukla know about the conspiracy in detail and requested the judge not to sanction the anticipatory bail. Advocate Z S Engineer defended Dixit.
