The ‘‘kidnap’’ of 21-year-old Altaf Ahmed from Laar in Ganderbal has only one explanation from the police and his uncle, PHE Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal — it is part of a ‘‘bigger’’ conspiracy to derail the ongoing peace process with Pakistan.

‘‘Only three days before the abduction of my nephew, two shots were fired at my son Farooq Ahmed when he went from Srinagar to our ancestral house at Laar,’’ Afzal said today.

The Kreeri SHO was suspended over the incident. A few cops had reportedly whisked away Ahmed and another man as a criminal case had been filed against the two. Afzal, however, said the ‘‘abduction’’ of his nephew cannot be the handiwork of an SHO alone.

‘‘They had abducted my nephew under some bigger plan,’’ the minister said, demanding an inquiry into the incident. ‘‘Though the government and its policies are ours, there are still some elements in the administration who do not want peace in the Valley… these elements were working at the behest of the National Conference and they even organised demonstrations whenever I visited Ganderbal, my constituency,’’ he said. ‘‘I cannot remain a silent spectator any more. I will talk to the CM and take up the issue during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.’’
