The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today questioned the ‘‘timing’’ of the CBI chargesheet against its chief Shibu Soren, saying it was ‘‘probably’’ an offshoot of the party’s decision not to join the NDA.
Yesterday, the CBI filed the chargesheet against Soren for allegedly possessing assets worth more than Rs 40 lakh disproportionate to income.
‘‘See the timing…For three years the CBI was sitting pretty and now that the elections are round the corner it has filed the chargesheet,’’ JMM national general secretary Muktinath Upadhya said.
The Congress called the move ‘‘politically motivated’’. ‘‘The JMM leader is not the person to be subdued and subjugated by the cases against him. He will be not be demoralised,” spokesman Jaipal Reddy said. The Congress has been hoping for a tie-up with the JMM for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, a process that has not yet taken off.
